Miles, Sears & Eanni attorney Christopher C. Watters reached a $1,299,999 settlement on behalf of Jane Fulton for dog bites she sustained in a pit bull attack on December 5, 2019.
At the time of the incident, Ms. Fulton was in the backyard of her landlord’s property when she was viciously attacked and mauled by a pit bull dog that was being kept in the backyard. The dog owner had dropped the dog off at the landlord’s property to be watched by the landlord. The dog had been involved in a prior attack.
Ms. Fulton sustained a significant bite wound to her left calf and ankle that ultimately became infected with MRSA. Ms. Fulton required immediate hospitalization for wound repair. She received after care services at a skilled nursing facility where she remained inpatient for five months. There she received debridement procedures, wound care, monitoring and treatment of the MRSA infection, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and a psychological consult which resulted in a post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis.
Ms. Fulton settled with the landlord’s insurance carrier for the $300,000 policy limit. Ms. Fulton later settled with the dog owner’s insurance carrier for $999,999.
